AI Assistant

How to work with files through conversation with AI

Using the AI Assistant

Loom's AI assistant performs file-related tasks through natural language conversation. No need to memorize complex commands - just speak naturally.

Starting a Conversation

  1. Open the folder as a workspace
  2. Type your request in the input field at the bottom
  3. Press Enter to send, Shift + Enter for new line

Adding Files

There are several ways to add files to the conversation:

File Mentions (@)

Type @ in the input field to see autocomplete suggestions for files and folders. Useful when specifying particular files for a task.

Example: @sales-report.xlsx Analyze this file

Add from File Browser

Select files in the left file list, then right-click to see the Add to Chat menu. You can select multiple files (Ctrl/Cmd + click) and add them all at once.

Paste Images

You can paste images directly from clipboard into the input field (Ctrl+V / Cmd+V). Useful for taking a screenshot and immediately asking for analysis.

  • Up to 5 images at once
  • Maximum 10MB per image
  • Attached images are shown as thumbnails, removable with the X button

Running Skills

Type / in the input field to see the list of registered skills. Quickly execute frequently used tasks.

Example: /summary This week's work content

Monitoring Progress

While the AI works, you can see the progress on screen:

  • Reading: Shows which file the AI is currently reading
  • Analyzing: Shows the data analysis or content understanding process
  • Writing: Shows when new files are being created or modified

Viewing Sources

When the AI references files in its response, they're shown as sources. Click a source to:

  • Open the file in the file viewer
  • Navigate to the original file location

Approving File Changes

When the AI modifies or creates files:

  1. A preview of changes is displayed
  2. Approve: Changes are applied to the actual file
  3. Reject: Changes are cancelled and the original is preserved

This prevents accidentally overwriting important files.

Continuing Conversations

You can make follow-up requests based on previous conversation:

  • "Add a chart to the report you just created"
  • "Translate the analysis results to Korean"
  • "Save in a different format"

Starting a New Conversation

Click the New Conversation button to work on a new topic. This starts a new session independent of the previous conversation.
